"Over the past few years, Hôpital de la Tour has been experimenting with the seemingly impossible: daylight, underground." - Fast Company, 2023
The radiotherapy room at Hôpital de La Tour, one of Geneva’s leading medical centers, is located three floors underground yet appears filled with natural light. To enhance patient and staff experience in this windowless space, the hospital opted for a state-of-the-art, natural-light-mimicking skylight, designed by Dcube.swiss using Light Cognitive's patented lighting technology.
This installation transforms a heavily shielded, enclosed environment—required for radiation containment—into one that feels open and inviting.
Light Cognitive’s daylight innovation replicates the qualities of natural light, meeting both the emotional and psychological needs of patients and staff.
The circadian lighting design fosters a calming atmosphere for patients undergoing radiotherapy. The light gently transitions from warm, melatonin-promoting hues at the start of treatment to cooler blues by the end, leaving patients feeling refreshed.
Above the $3.3 million linear accelerator, Light Cognitive’s V-shaped skylight mirrors the machine’s triangular structure, integrating technology and design to create a cohesive and comforting setting.
The light installation also supports hospital staff, who work long hours in windowless spaces.
By replicating daylight underground, Light Cognitive’s solution contributes to a healthier, more comfortable workspace, promoting well-being, alertness, and productivity in this high-stress environment.
